About Ashok Trust
Ashok Trust is a Canada-based non-profit supporting children and adults with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges, with a strong focus on family wellbeing and respite care.
We work with families who often carry care responsibilities around the clock. Many are emotionally and physically exhausted, with little support and no breaks. Our work is built around one simple understanding: when families are supported, children thrive better.
At Ashok Trust, care does not stop at the child. Our system is designed so families are not confined to constant supervision and stress.

Building Sustainable Care
Our goal is long-term wellbeing, where children grow with confidence and families remain emotionally and physically healthy.
What Do We Aim For ?
Vision
A world where children and adults with developmental and mental health needs are supported to live meaningful lives, and where families are not exhausted or isolated by care.
We believe care should not come at the cost of a family’s wellbeing. Every child deserves opportunity, and every caregiver deserves rest, dignity, and support.
Mission
To create a structured care system that supports children while giving families genuine respite.
Through education, therapies, daily skill development, and safe routines, we ensure children are engaged, supported, and growing. At the same time, we give parents and caregivers the time, space, and relief they need to rest, work, and live balanced lives without guilt
How Our System Works
Our model is built around structured daily engagement for the child and meaningful respite for the family.
Children attend school and structured programmes during the day. This includes special education support, therapeutic input, social activities, and daily life skills training. They are in a safe, supervised environment that supports learning, development, and routine.
While children are engaged, families receive real respite. This time allows parents and caregivers to rest, attend work, manage responsibilities, or simply take a break without anxiety.
This balance is central to everything we do.Our system includes:
- Special education and learning support
- Planned respite care that supports family wellbeing
- Individual care planning for both the child and the family
- Life skills training to encourage independence
- Social and group activities for emotional development
- Safe transport and meals
We do not believe families should feel guilty for needing rest. Respite is not a luxury. It is essential.
Why Respite Care Matters
Caring for a child or adult with additional needs is a full-time responsibility. Over time, families lose personal space, energy, and emotional balance. Many stop working, socialising, or caring for their own health.
Our respite care allows families to breathe again.
By ensuring children are safe, engaged, and supported during the day, caregivers regain time, stability, and confidence. This leads to healthier families and better outcomes for children.

Story Behind the Vision
The story of the Ashok Trust begins within the walls of a home, touched by both love and struggle. Mr. San Mahajan, the founder, grew up as the primary caregiver in a family where caregiving was not a choice but a necessity. His younger brother, now 31 years old, lives with Down Syndrome, and his mother bravely battled the relentless challenges of schizophrenia.
From an early age, Mr. San experienced firsthand what many families silently endure. He knows the feeling of being confined, where limited resources and constant responsibilities weigh heavily on every member. He has seen how emotional, financial, and social burdens intertwine, leaving families feeling overwhelmed and isolated from the world outside. He deeply understands the daily struggle to secure basic support, therapy, and a safe path forward for loved ones living with mental and developmental disabilities…. Read More

But it takes a rare special human to embrace & raise the other rare, delicate buds to the very top and hold them with care till they blossom, shine & dance with the wind.”
